It replaces the dialoge track of the original completely and replaces it with the new voices, so it's different from what you're used to. Famous actors are always dubbed by the same person iirc. For instance, I live in Belgium and in the French-speaking part almost everything is dubbed in French (using the dubs from France). France, Germany, Spain and Italy all dub their stuff, and countries in the same language sphere do to. In Europe most of the bigger countries/languages dub. Russian localization in general fits well with Japanese media.Īgain this question to people who consumed foreign media in different language and please be respectful. Guys are fans who put passion into work and just a bunch of funny guysīut to me big example is how they handle Fight Scenes, TickleMeElbow pointed out how screams and fight noises sound more natural.
In my case I was watching Anime in English because I thought they put better work but not too long ago I realized that Russian localization has bigger experience and Russian Anime dubbing grown to have Theater, TV actors and screenwriters. How do you consume foreign Media since you know English now? Do you listen it in English localization due to it higher quality in Editing, translation and VO then your own Language localization provides or use Subtitles?
Was it for you full DUB/Voice over or Subtitles? Both Official and Unofficial channels? experienced in terms of localization of foreign media? So I wonder what non primarily English speaking countries be it Europe, South America, East/South Asia etc. Because unofficial VO actually put acceptable if not good level of acting, moreover it was kinda mix of both you can understand the speech through Voice over translation and still hear emotions from original track (Yes Im talking about Pirate websites and Yes there were a lot of God Awful VOs) With Anime in particular it was a norm to wait a few days for 1-2 fans VO translation though SUB is already have been released. We got used to have foreign media being voiced over by 2 people and still hear original track in the background (Some official Russian Channels still use such level of localization). With that in mind I hope you understand my view, I and I think most people from Central Asia find Subtitles less convenient, obviously there are conversations on such topic as well but not much wars that I see with English speakers (Though I'll be honest its been a while since I browsed Russian web). Therefore though number of English speakers grows Russian localization is still dominated in the region. Now obviously most countries have own language localization however its still small in scope, like you wont find Kazakh dub of Gundam anime. In the past a lot of people in Central Asia experienced foreign media though Russian localization we talking about not only official network channels, which had full dubbing and limited voice over but piracy as well where sometimes 1 guy had to distort voice so Police wont catch him and Translation being out of sync by 5 seconds, options for subtitles was very little and I think not preferred much either.
The majority of countries in Central Asia speaks Russian, some as official 2nd language some due to USSR fallout. Upon reflecting on that thread a thought came to mind about Dubs and Subs conversations that I found odd at times. Recently I made thread about Anime Op/Ed in different languages and was pleasantly surprised by though old but well Localized works. I understand that this might sound like another thread to create unnecessary opinion wars but please be mindful this topic is actually interesting to me since we talking about how different countries engage into localization of foreign media and consumption of it.
